concretespeaker

An outdoor music solution produced with sound frequency precision in mind

This product is produced from a monocoque shell of concrete for an A level project. Concrete, to me was an interesting material, used for generations in the construction of structures that require water retention, strength and durability in urban environments. It made sense to investigate the benefits this material could bring to the design of sound amplification for an outdoor environment.

Unobtrusive & timeless style despite its edgy shape & material

Inspiration from the philosophy of Dieter  Rams, paired with a radical material choice based on centuries worth of sound physics.

Theoretically the sound absorbsion properties of concrete will mean that sound will reflect and diffuse inside the enclosure rather than pass through the concrete body - generating a more accurate frequency response

Testing and experimenting unvieled the perfect mix

It took 16 variations of concrete mixture and 5 mould types to produce the best shell. Draft angles in the inside diametre insure fast & efficent realease for manufacture. Draft angles means sound is pushed outwards with the opening at the front larger than the rear.

Wireless & superior

As well as every detail on the speaker enclosure taken into consideration, the product also features highly-performing componments including 5.25" kevlar drivers, 1000w amplifier, 12v Li-On battery. Bluetooth and Wi-fi capability.
